Around the boys there was dark colours and the girl had mostly bright and pink colours. The locations was mainly at school, a drive through cinema and a cafe. Main props were the colours of clothes to separate the two genders.

What did you like about the film?
In grease i enjoyed the songs as it gave the audience a positive vibe while watching the play. Even watching it the first time you wanted to join in with the songs even if you didn't know the lyrics. You automatically feel very involved.

Research: The Breakfast Club Title sequence remake-

This is our remake of The Breakfast Club
title sequence.

Research- Evaluation of Breakfast Club Re-make

During the remake of the Breakfast club I believe that it went well. However, i feel like if we had more time to complete the filming, the clips and the title sequence would be better as it could not be rushed. Our scene's had the correct about of energy and we made our film similar to the orginal clip which was a decent re-make with the amount of time that we had.

Furthermore we had the same amount of time to edit that we had to film. We found it easier to edit as we didn't have to use lots of props and look for places to film, however what we did find difficult was the sound as there was various dialogue and sound to put over clips.

Evaluation of The Breakfast Club Remake - Research

Whilst filming our remake of the Breakfast Club, we believe that the experience as a whole was different to other tasks we have done before however it was still interesting. As the task was new to us, we found it difficult to create similar shots to the orginal breakfast club. While filming we discovered that we needed a lot of props in the scenes which were around the college. This meant that we were going up and down lots of stairs to find lockers, tropheys, clocks and pictures of people. Doing this means that we became tired and when it came to acting in our scenes we had to re-do a lot of them due to lack of energy. However we managed to get the scenes we needed to do done in quick timing.
Filming scenes for our remake caused a few problems for us, this is because we had to go to various locations which ampted up the pressure

Research: Analyse of my favourite movie's title sequence [7]

Hunger Games - Catching Fire.
I've chosen to analyse Hunger Games - Catching Fire as my title sequence because I believe it's the best title sequence I have seen. furthermore I think it plays a huge role in setting the tone of the film as a whole.
Here's the footage of the opening title sequence of the film 'Hunger Games - Catching fire'

The opening title sequence first begins with the distribution company 'Lionsgate Presents' and then credits the production company 'A Color Force/Lionsgate Production'. It then shows the main cast names that plays in this movie e.g Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson.  Then it shows the famous logo of the film with the title of the film too. it then goes to showing the actors of the film that has played a part in this movie. Following from that they then show who casted the actors (Debra Zane) and who supervised the music team (Alexandra Patsavas) in the same frame. James Newton Howard then goes gets credited for the music, before the costume designer (Trish Summerville) and the editor Alan Edward Bell. The production designer (Philip Messina) and director of photography (Ajo Wilems) then share the same frame as both get credited for their roles to this film. The four executive (Suzanne Collins, Louise Losner-Meyer, Joe Drake and Allison Shearmur) are then credited for their assets to the film.

Research: What is Genre? and what is a Teen Drama film? [8]

A genre is a style, type or category of an art, music, or literature piece of work
In the media or film industry genre is defined to be the type of movie itself. for example this consist of either an Adventure, Comedy, Horror, Rom-Com, Sci-fi etc.

For my coursework I'll be looking specifically at the genre: Teen Drama, these types of movies usually are aimed to be for teens or young adults or even both. The storyline of these specific films are usually based on people who are roughly the same as their desired target audience which therefore shows that it's for teens who are coming of age. Typical locations that are generally used in Teen Dramas are in young teens areas e.g. the children's bedroom, schools, parks etc.

These are some types of Teen Dramas:

Research: Favorite movie title sequence-

My favorite movie of all time is the film Reservoir Dogs by Quentin Tarantino. I think that this is one of the best movies of all time and Quentin Tarantino is a legendary film maker. The title sequence to this movie has so many interesting things done in it that makes it stand out to any other title sequence I have seen. Here is the actual title sequence.

The title sequence includes (in order):
  • The main cast
  • Title of the film
  • Supporting cast
  • Person in charge of casting
  • Music supervisor
  • Costume designer
  • Editor
  • Production Designer
  • Director of photography
  • Co-producer
  • Executive producer
  • Producer
What type of title sequence is it?

I believe that this type of title sequence is a mix between titles on a blank screen and titles over moving images. This is because at the beginning, you see text appear whilst the men are walking. Then after the title is shown, the film then changes and it becomes a title over a blank screen.

What category does it fall into?

I believe that the film falls into the category of a narrative title sequence. This is because as soon as the title sequence starts, we get dialogue explaining what is happening and the film gives us an idea about what the plot is going to be about.

Why do I like it?

I like this title sequence a lot because of how iconic it is. This walk that the cast do and the song that plays along with it is something every film addict knows and I love Tarantino's style with his intros and how he always uses a title on blank screen because that type isn't used that much in modern movies. Also, I love the theme song as I have it on my phone as well.

Research: 4 types of film opening-

There are 4 main types of a movie title sequence. These are:

  • Titles on blank screen
  • Titles on still images
  • Titles over moving images
  • Titles using animation or motion
Titles on a blank screen
  • Most common type
  • Low budget
  • Simple institutional information
Examples are films like Psycho and Pulp Fiction.

Titles on still images
  • Include hand drawn borders and other images
  • More elaborate than a blank screen.
Examples are films like Wimbledon.

Titles over moving images
  • Credit titles with moving image behind titles and has sound but no dialogue
  • Served to offer a metaphorical or narrative thread
Examples are films like Rear Window or The Sixties.

Titles using animation or motion
  • Text and titles become moving images
  • Lots of digital technology
Examples are films like Casino Royale.

There are three categories of title sequences, these are:
  • Narrative title sequences
  • Discrete title sequences
  • Stylized sequences
Narrative title sequences

Narrative title sequences starts the film as soon as the title sequence starts. This means that while the title sequence is happening, the plot is shown instantly. An example is one of my favorite movies of all time, The Shining.

Discrete title sequences

This is when the title is intergrated with moving images but the story or plot is unclear. An example of this is the title sequence of the film, Se7en.

Stylized movie sequences

This category of title sequence is basically the other two but combined into one. An example is the movie, The Taking of Pelham 123.

Research: What is a title sequence?-

Title Sequence: Skyfall

This title sequence includes:

  • Opening credits
  • Theme song
  • Characters (James Bond Etc)
  • Weapons (Guns)
  • Title of film

Research: Four Types Of Film Opening [6]

Categorizing Title Sequences

There are four types of title opening sequences which are:
  • Titles on a blank screen
  • Titles on still images
  • Titles over moving images
  • Titles using animation or notion
Titles on a blank screen
  • Titles on a blank screen usually have a white typeface on a fairly dark background to create a contrast and make it stand out more.
  • It's often used in low budget films/movies as they are one of the cheapest title sequence effect out of the four.
  • They are described to be simple and also uncomplicated to include the institutional's name and information.

'Psycho' is one of the clips that I looked at that uses the titles on blank screen as their title sequence. Here you can see that they used white font on a dark black background to create a contrast so the title can stand out more to the audience.
I think this title sequence is quite boring because it doesn't appeal to me due to the dull colours used and the static 'Psycho' lettering.

'Pulp Fiction' is another clip i looked at that uses the titles of blank screen as their title sequence. This time you can see that they used yellow lettering on black background to make the contrast quite evident.
i found this title sequence very appealing because the bright yellow font caught my attention is very catchy which made me want to continue watching this film,

Titles on still images
  • It's a way to incorporate text with a visual image to hint out the genre or tone of the film to the people watching the sequence.
  • Majority of the time it includes hard drawn borders and other images along with the titles.
  • They allow the credits to become more longer and allow to incorporate more names than just the film maker's and studio's names
  • It requires different media to create the background

The film wimbledon used this title sequence for their title sequence. Here you can see that they used more than one background image in their title sequence.
In this first image the word 'Wimbledon' is in white writing and on a background image that looks like the sky/clouds. The effect of including that for their opening title sets the audience that the film is quite relaxing (tone).

Here in this clip they use a different image as their background - they used a tennis crowd. This sets the genre to the audience that it's about sports and could attract tennis fanatics by including this image.
I quite like this type of opening sequence because straight away it sets the scene even when the actual film hasn't started.
Titles over moving images
  • Credit titles are shown along with moving images behind the title.
  • Moving images serve to offer either metaphor or narrative thread.
  • This is known to help introduce the tone or storyline of the film.
'Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window' used the titles over moving images for their opening title sequence. Here I took several screengrabs of their title sequence to show that they use moving images behind their font titles. For example we get to see all the curtains go up one by one starting with left curtain which gradually goes up while they display the main actors names and also the name of the film. I personally like this title sequence because it's quite entertaining watching the moving images in the background.

Titles using animations or motion
  • The text and titles become moving images.
  • This category of title sequence requires a lot of digital technology and stylized editing.
  • They are integrated together with the images we see.
We looked at two clips one was called Casino Royale and the other was 'Catch Me If You Can' both of these films used this title sequence. The effect made me enticed in the film and want to watch the full footage of the films.

The two categories that I will be looking at which are important for the course is 'titles over moving images' and 'titles using animation or motion' title sequences.:

Narrative Title Sequences

  • The titles are integrated into moving images in some way and begin as the film itself.
  • Whilst the film is happening this title sequence is shown in the film

In this title sequence we can see that the name of the film 'Panic Room' is shown while the film is going on.
I like this title sequence because even though it's embedded with the actual movie we don't have to wait for title sequence to finish for us to see the beginning of the film.
Another film called 'The Shining' shows their title whilst the film is being played.

Discrete Title Sequences
  • The titles is integrated with moving images but is not clear what the storyline or plot is about.
  • This specific title sequence doesn't want you to set the plot straight away to the audience watching the film.
  • It helps set the tone to the viewers and gives clues that the audience will understand later in the film.

Stylised title sequences

  • It's describe to be high quality
  • Its a mixture of the other two categories in terms of what we see but the moving images and the titles credits have been stylized to create a combined looking effect.
My favourite title sequence is 'titles over moving images because we get to see who starred in the film whilst being able to watch the film.
